About Summer Food 4 Kids
Summer Food 4 Kids is a community outreach program that is coordinated by volunteers to serve the children of Erath County. During the summer, Summer Food 4 Kids provides healthy, ready-to-eat meal and snack items to underprivileged children in Erath County. Our program is designed to provide nutritious food options to children who may not have access to healthy meals during the summer months. We believe that every child deserves access to healthy food, regardless of their socioeconomic status. Join us in our mission to end childhood hunger in Erath County.
How it began
The power of a small group can be extraordinary. When you get a group of people together who share a common goal in life and one of them happens to be the go-getter… you end up doing something that changes the trajectory for people in a way which reflects a life of loving others.
Summer Food 4 Kids began as a dinner table discussion in the Spring of 2018. Several of us volunteered for a local non-profit organization in Stephenville, Texas which sent snack foods to local schools to pass out to children for weekend gap fillers. The items were shelf stable, and easy to eat without prep or heating. Families across the globe struggle to provide consistent nutrition for little ones. For many of the Erath County schools, food insecurity is not unheard of among their students. This organization was filling a weekend need where the schools themselves were helping fill the day-to-day need. Our dinner table discussion happened to be about how our group could serve our community in a way that was impactful. The end of the school year was quickly approaching, and one of the ladies asked, “what happens during the summer when the school is not feeding the children?” Thus, the idea of Summer Food 4 Kids began.
Since the Summer of 2018, Summer Food 4 Kids is packing weekly boxes of food to be delivered to family’s doorsteps. We gather teams of volunteers who purchase food, receive the truck, and unpack the food into storage, pack out the family boxes and lastly there is a team who delivers boxes directly to the families. This happens all twelve weeks of Summer while public schools are not in session.

Our vision is a world where every child has access to healthy, nourishing food, regardless of their socioeconomic status. We believe that by working together as a community, we can make this vision a reality.

Throughout the summer, Summer Food 4 kids provides healthy and appealing ready-to-eat meal and snack items to underprivileged children in Erath County – delivered directly to their doorsteps.
